About This Spot

Settled along the quiet stretch of State Hwy 71, Poodies Hilltop Roadhouse feels like a welcome pause—a place where the rustic charm of Hill Country meets the steady hum of live music and friendly conversation. As you pull into the parking area, the wide-open sky seems to stretch just a little broader, and the relaxed pace of the day slows down. There’s an easygoing spirit here, one that invites you to settle in at the bar or one of the sun-dappled outdoor patios, perhaps on a terrace that frames the rolling Texas landscape against fading light.

Inside, the atmosphere is warm and unpretentious, with well-worn surfaces and plenty of room to gather, whether at a bar stool or a picnic-style table. Live music often fills the air, a backdrop that shifts from easy strumming to full-throated sets without ever feeling overwhelming. The mix of inside and outside venues offers a chance to soak up the community rhythm under the iconic Texas flag or beneath an endless sky, making it a natural gathering spot for locals and travelers alike.

Food and drink here mirror that grounded feeling—built for good company and honest satisfaction. There’s something gratifying about the way a juicy burger, paired with a cold Shiner Bock or a cleverly mixed Mai Tai, can anchor an afternoon or evening. Light bites like jalapeno poppers offer just the right bit of spice, while fresh salads bring a touch of brightness to the table. It’s fare that feels at home alongside laughter, the clink of glasses, and the steady pulse of live performances.

Poodies doesn’t just serve meals or pour drinks; it offers a genuine slice of Hill Country living, where the days drift by with a comforting blend of familiar flavors, local music, and shared moments. Whether you’re easing into a sunset with a Lone Star in hand or catching a band that makes you tap your feet, it’s a place where the simple joy of being present feels right at home.

Amazingly located rustic roadside bar with views of the surounding hill county. They have numerous bar stools, tables, and outdoor patios, including terraces to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset. They have stages inside and outside hosting several acts per week beneath a Texas flag or the Texas sky. Also a great place to sip a lone star while watching the cowboys win. No bad days here. They have a large free parking lot behind the building.

The owner at Iron Wolf recommended this place to us for our Bachelorette group and we decided to try it out. Place was pretty cool, had plenty of seating inside and out, the bartenders were very patient and great with us. The food came out quick and the burgers were delicious, full of flavor and fresh. We enjoyed ourselves.

Stopped by for a quick lunch. Had never been before. The live music was about to start so they wanted to charge a cover charge. We were unaware and we really just wanted to have lunch so they were nice enough to let us sit outside without paying the fee. Food and service was great! Would consider going back for the music, it just that day we happened to be there with young kids.

Great steak, great live music, great staff. The August 2025 calendar has 59 events on it. Something for everyone.

Excellent roadside find! The food, drinks, service, live music, and overall vibe was incredible. Swung by to just grab a bite to eat and started for several hours enjoying. Highly recommend the Poodie Burger. It's for a great kick with the spice. Seriously good if you enjoy a great burger. Well done to the owners and staff. Will definitely be back.

Stopped off on my way from Austin to Kingsland to check it out. Nice little dive bar. Friendly waitress. Will be going back when they have some live music on tap. Great food!
